Sid Meier's Civilization (PC)

Sid Meier's definitive and downright classic Civilization, the strategy game that attempted to simulate history and keeps getting sequels to this very day, remains a wonderfully addictive and impressively clever offering that hasn't aged a day. Besides, owning a box that asks you to Build An Empire To Stand The Test Of Time should be mandatory.

So, here's an eBay auction for Side Meier's Civilization (PC). The game comes on four 3.5" disks in its original, lovely box with hefty manual and technical supplement and will be happy to run under both MS-DOS and Win 3.1.

An essentially new Odyssey 2

This properly graded as near mint, essentially new, re-sealed and complete in its box Odyssey 2 console (by Magnavox) that has been put up for auction on eBay is a thing of retro beauty and one of the few consoles to ever ship with a built-in keyboard. What's more, it comes complete with one game cartridge, manual, styrofoam inserts, Odyssey 2 catalogs, leaflets and all the required parts to get things up and running.

Timex Sinclair 1000 & extras

The Timex Sinclair 1000, the slightly modified US version of the Sinclair ZX81, was released in 1982 and did pretty well mainly due to its incredibly sensible launch price. The fact that it came with two whole kilobytes of memory must have helped quite a bit too, as must have done a rich library of software and peripherals.

To own such a micro, you could bid on this Timex Sinclair 1000 auction on eBay. The computer comes with manuals, books, a few tapes and the Timex Personal Printer. It hasn't been tested, but  -aesthetically- looks absolutely fine.

One Radofin Tele-Sports III in one box

Among the countless Pong-cloning consoles of the 1970s, one would have to admit that the Radofin Tele-Sports III (and the wider Radofin range too apparently) easily stood out. Not only did it support colour graphics and allow for the use of cartridges, but some of its games weren't particularly Pong-like with Grand Prix being a prime example of said fact.

Happily, a boxed copy of Grand Prix has been bundled with the 10-in-1 games cart Superstar and an equally boxed console and made itself available via this Radofin Tele-Sports III eBay auction. The system is tested and working and comes complete with power supply and two controllers.

X-COM: Terror From The Deep (MS-DOS)

The sequel to X-COM, the aptly named X-COM: Terror From The Deep is probably the most difficult turn-based strategy game I have ever encountered and an immensely satisfying thing to beat, involving lots of aliens, fragile squads, weird tech and epic underwater battles. Of course, it also comes in a hefty box complete with 3.5" disks, manual and everything, provided that is you grab a copy like the one available via this X-COM: Terror From The Deep (PC) eBay auction.

NEC PC Engine SuperGrafx

The rare and wonderful successor to the PC Engine, the 16-bit powerhouse that is the NEC PC Engine SuperGrafx may have failed to dominate console gaming, but it did get a select few excellent  games released for it while retaining full backward compatibility with the PC Engine and even its CD add-on. Oh, and the SuperGrafx was exclusively released in Japan.

To own one, you could try your luck and bid on this PC Engine SuperGrafx eBay auction. The console comes in its original box with power supply and controller and five obviously rare games: 1941: Counter Attack, Aldynes, Battle Ace, Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) and Madō King Granzort.

Seller ships only within the UK, but one can never know what asking really nicely can accomplish.

Zelda's Adventure (CD-i)

Having never played a CD-i Zelda  game I simply cannot say whether they are all as bad as common wisdom would have us believe, though, admittedly, common wisdom does seem to agree that Zelda's Adventure is indeed the worst of the lot. It's a digitized affair staring Zelda herself and one that is played from an overhead perspective where apparently everything went wrong. From the blurry digitized graphics and the horrid acting to the virtually non-existent music and the ludicrous difficulty, nothing really worked.

Still, the game is quite rare today and considered by many an important collectible for the CD-i, meaning that more than a few people should be interested in this Zelda's Adventure (CD-i) eBay auction. The game comes in its jewel case and the seller ships worldwide.

Amiga 600 HD: The EPIC Pack

The compact Amiga 600 may have seemed rather underwhelming back when it was launched, but we have to admit that it's a lovely and incredibly handy A500 upgrade, that can be a highly desirable 16-bit micro. Especially when it comes (almost) complete in its EPIC collection box as is the case with this Amiga 600HD eBay auction.

Said Amiga 600 comes in the EPIC box with all the original software (Deluxe Paint III, Epic, Myth and Rome), all the manuals, RF lead, power supply, (third party) mouse and all the original inserts. The micro has been upgraded to feature 2MB of RAM and a 40MB hard disk and everything seems to be in excellent condition.

The Sega Wondermega

The Wondermega is a combined Sega Megadrive and Mega CD manufactured by Sega and JVC, that also features a  DSP for audio enhancement, MIDI out, two microphone inputs and a S-video output. Well, at least Wondermega mark one does and its a mark one that's been put up for auction over at eBay. Here: Sega Wondermega.

Interstingly and unlike the CDX, the Wondermega is compatible with the Sega 32X and even had the Wonder CD peripheral released for it.

As for the particular Sega Wondermega on offer, it is in very good condition, comes in its original box, but lacks the 110V power supply. Seller ships worldwide.

Gamma-Attack by Gammation (Atari 2600)

Described by Atari Age as unbelievably rare, Gamma-Attack is indeed many a collector's holy grail and a pretty expensive game to own. Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers

The best and last Space Quest to be designed by both the Guys from Andromeda, Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers is a fantastic and at times properly funny adventure game with then-impressive 256-colour VGA graphics, great music, weird mini games, a demented plot taking you from Space Quest XII to the EGA times of Space Quest I and some truly tough (and one horribly unfair) puzzles. It's also a Sierra classic you could buy via this Space Quest IV (DOS) eBay auction.

This is the 5.25" disk, MS-DOS, VGA version you'll be bidding on and it comes complete in its box with all the floppies, the manual, the brilliant Space Piston magazine, the Sierra catalog and all the rest of the bundled paperwork. Everything seems to be in great condition and the seller is shipping to many places worldwide.

A wonderful, boxed Commodore 64C

To be brutally honest I was really tempted to bid on this lovely, boxed Commodore 64C, but apparently those hard times do not allow for such excesses; despite the fact that this seems like quite the bargain. And is apparently in mint condition and works brilliantly. Oh, well...

Oh, and do keep in mind that said Commodore 64C comes complete with all the boxes of the Hollywood Presents pack, manual, PSU, Datassette and a fantastic selection of games including The Tolkien Trilogy and The Great Escape.

Oh, and here's a nice Sega Genesis CDX eBay auction.

Half Life & GOTY CD

Half Life is the game that revolutionized the FPS and defined Valve. An excellent offering with a clever b-movie inspired plot, great pacing, cinematic sensibilities, impressive AI, iconic enemies, unique weapons, lovely graphics and everyone's favourite bespectacled action hero. A game that was one of Sierra's last publishing successes.

To grab a copy of the thing, you can bid on this pretty impressive Half Life & GOTY CD (PC) eBay auction. The game comes complete in its box with the lovely addition of a CD sporting the Game Of The Year edition content of Half Life.

The Zork Chronicles by George Alec Effinger

When I started reading George Alec Effinger's The Zork Chronicles I was expecting a decent, possibly humorous fantasy novel that would mainly interest me due to its Zorkian theme. I never expected the brilliant, incredibly clever, well written and decidedly weird piece of fiction I encountered and can't help but heartily recommend.

So, here's a Zork Chronicles eBay auction you might want to check out. Seller ships worldwide.

The complete Apple IIgs

The final evolution of the Apple II, the Apple IIgs, didn't really manage to threaten the dominance of the Amiga and Atari ST but it did end up being an elegant, powerful and well designed computer with a pretty impressive software library. Now, this Apple IIgs eBay auction may not sport any kind of software, but comes complete with keyboard, monitor, mouse, disk drive, power cable and memory expansion card.

The computer on offer is the ROM 03 revision of the system is fully working and, apparently, in great aesthetic condition too. Seller ships to the Americas and Europe.

Shadowrun (Sega Genesis)

Set in a dystopian future that combines fantasy elves and trolls with Gibson's noir cyberpunk, Shadowrun has always been an excellent and quite refreshing RPG setting. Also, a truly great roleplaying game for Sega's 16-bit console, as you too can hopefully find out by bidding on this Shadowrun (Genesis) eBay auction. The cartridge has been tested and works fine.

Seller to Canada and the United States.

Acorn Archimedes A3010

Released alongside the Amiga 1200 and the Atari Falcon, the Archimedes A3010 was a brilliant, powerful, 32-bit computer that simply couldn't hope to take on the onslaught of 486 PCs. Its 12Mhz RISC processor, SVGA graphics, excellent audio capabilities, compact design and sleek OS weren't enough to change the tide, but have made sure the A3010 remains a unique and quite fantastic retro machine to own and collect for.

So, here's an intriguing Acorn Archimedes A3010 eBay auction then. The micro on offer comes complete with all required leads and bits as well as a mouse. It seems to be in great condition too. The seller only ships within the United Kingdom.

'70s fun with the Telstar Arcade

The Telstar Arcade by Coleco was an advanced (for the 1970s, that is) cartridge-based evolution of the then popular Pong machines that came in a unique triangular casing. As you can see above, each face of the console has been designed with a different type of game in mind. You get a light-gun, a steering wheel with a gearshift and traditional paddles. What's more, each of the four cartridges released for the machine came with several games and a MPS-7600 chip.

What's more if you are willing to risk on an untested machine --let alone one lacking the lightgun-- with a game cartridge, this Telstar Arcade auction on eBay should be of interest. Seller ships to most places worldwide.

Snatcher (Sega Mega CD)

Hideo Kojima's Snatcher has always been reason enough to own to a Sega (Mega) CD and also a brilliantly atmospheric, excellently illustrated adventure game with obvious Blade Runner influences and some very intriguing ideas of its own. Also, it's one of the rarest Sega Mega CD games in existence; interested parties should have a look at this Snatcher (Sega Mega CD) eBay auction.

The game comes complete in its case with the manual and seems to be in very good condition. Seller ships worldwide.

Twin Famicom & 8 Games

What you see above is the second version of that excellent and rather rare hybrid console: the Twin Famicom by Sharp. Obviously a Nintendo-licensed piece of hardware, the Twin Famicom plays both Famicom disks and cartridges, looks lovely and --in the case of the mark II above-- comes with turbo controllers.

Intrigued? Good. This Twin Famicom eBay auction should be of interest then. Its disk drive has not been tested (due to lack of disk based games), but the cartridge slot seems to work absolutely fine and it comes with two controllers, its original box and 8 games including Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy I & II, Galaxian and Sangokushi.

The Colonel's Bequest (Atari ST)

Probably my favourite Roberta Williams game, The Colonel's Bequest was an innovative murder mystery adventure game with obvious Agatha Christie influences published by Sierra in 1989. As was customary back in the day, it came in a hefty box filled with disks and goodies, a complete, sealed version of which you could grab on via this The Colonel's Bequest (Atari ST) eBay auction.
