Unreleased NES Super Turrican Prototype

Huge as Turrican and Super Turrican were in Europe, Super Turrican never managed to make it on the NES despite apparently being an essentially completed game. You can find -possibly even buy- all the proof you need over at this NES Super Turrican Prototype eBay auction. It's a NTSC version of Super Turrican on a 22 years old EPROM cartridge from SEIKA / Manfred Trenz for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The thing is quite obviously extremely rare and thus expensive, though it does admittedly look rather impressive. Seller ships worldwide.

Boxed Atari 5200

We do have to admit that the Atari 5200, despite its disastrous controllers and many flaws, remains a luxuriant looking console and an important piece of gaming history. In the case of this Atari 5200 eBay auction it also remains complete in its box. Well, complete with controller, RF switch and power adapter, that is. Oh, and three games: Pole Position, Galaxian and Super Breakout.

Battle Chess (Acorn Archimedes)

Seeing the chess pieces move and kill each other was an almost magical experience and having Acorn's powerful RISC computer move them around was all the more impressive. So, uhm, chances are Archimedes owners will be more than happy to know they can grab a complete, boxed and finely preserved copy of Battle Chess via eBay for the Acorn 32-bit.

The auction will be over in a day and the seller's shipping worldwide.

Unreleased Chip's Challenge NES Prototype

We all know that Chip's Challenge is a brilliant puzzler that was made famous --mainly-- on the Atari Lynx; what Retro Collect just taught us though is that Chip's Challenge almost made it to the Nintendo Entertainment System too complete with new graphics and everything. And here, listed on eBay, is the unreleased Chip's Challenge NES Prototype to prove this. It's an EPROM card with  the game's demo code and it's as rare a NES rarity as it could get.

Seller ships worldwide.

Atari 520 STFM Discovery Pack

Though the seller hasn't cataloged everything this Atari ST 520 eBay auction comes with, the classic 16-bit computer has been tested and comes in its original Discovery Pack box with polys, leads and manuals. A mouse and four boxed games (Stunt Car Racer, Speedball, 1st Division Manager, Manchester United Europe) are also included as are quite a lot of other disks too -- hopefully the ones that with the excellent Discovery Pack software bundle and thus goodies such as STOS and more games.

Seller ships to the UK, US, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Australia, Russia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and China.

Stunt Car Racer (Amiga)

Geoff Crammond's Stunt Car Racer is a simple to grasp, tough to master, brilliantly designed and essentially unique arcade racer that remains as fun to play today as it was 20 years ago. And still looks lovely too; especially on the Amiga. This boxed, rare-ish, Kixx version of Stunt Car Racer currently being auctioned off over at eBay comes complete with disk and instructions and will run on any Amiga you might be lucky enough to own.

Seller ships only within Europe.

Amstrad GX4000 Complete

I always thought that Amstrad's GX4000 console looked a bit like a space-ship, you know. A white, 1990 space-ship to be exact and one that houses the interestingly upgraded CPC+ innards and can do some pretty lovely things with its 8-bit hardware. Not that it got the games or support it deserved, but it remains a fun curio to own and collect for.

This particular Amstrad GX4000 currently being auctioned off at eBay, comes complete in its original box with two controllers, the required cables, polys, manual and Burnin' Rubber cartridge. Copies of Batman and World of Sports are also included.

Seller ships to the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Sinclair ZX80 KIT

Back in the mists of time when Sinclair launched the venerable (and now highly collectible) ZX80 computer, you could save a few pounds on the asking price by grabbing it in kit form and assembling it yourself. Interestingly, you can still grab one of the few ZX80s that have remained unassembled via this ZX80 (KIT) eBay auction.

The kit is complete and filled with all the stuff you need to make your very own retro PC, but the seller is only shipping within the UK European Union.

Boxed Mattel Intellivision

Having sold an estimated 3 million consoles, Mattel didn't set the gaming world on fire with its 8-bit Intellivision console, but it provided us with an excellent, powerful for its time and fairly successful game machine that has aged gracefully.

Also, you can grab one via this lovely Mattel Intellivision eBay auction. The console is fully working and seems to be in excellent condition. What's more, it comes in its original box with poly inserts, cables and five games.

Seller ships to most of Europe, Australia, Russia, Japan, New Zealand and China.

Super Mario Brothers 2 (Famicom)

The real Super Mario Bros. 2, the Japanese version of the game, is looking especially lovely coming on a disk; you know, for the Famicom Disk System. The game comes in its case and, truth be said, a Famicom with its Disk System would come in incredibly handy in enjoying this.

Seller is shipping to the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.

A Big Box of Loom

Unlike Doom, Loom is a truly beautiful game that does unique things with the point-and-click adventure formula and hasn't aged a single day. It's as stunning, touching and intriguing as the day it was released and you can still grab it complete in its original, big box via this Loom (PC) eBay auction.

You'll be bidding on the talkie/CD-ROM version of the game for MS-DOS, mind you, that comes with a sealed copy of the Loom Audio Drama on a second CD. Also included in the box are the game CD, the Book of Patterns, the manual and a quickstart guide.

Sellers ships (mostly) worldwide.

Cheap and Lovely Amiga 600

The Amiga 600 is a lovingly compact version of the A500+ and thus a brilliant little 16-bit micro that can still pull off some impressive audiovisual tricks. This particular Amiga 600 currently up for auction on eBay, will probably end up with a very modest price and still come complete with several cover disks, a mouse, leads and three games: Civilization, Dune II and Black Crypt.

Sealed Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)

Super Mario Bros. 3, arguably the most important Mario game ever, is much more than a stunningly brilliant 8-bit platformer. It's the game that cemented Mario's legend, made Nintendo's Entrtainment System a huge success and defined console gaming well into the '90s. It is also available, sealed, factory packed and in excellent condition via this Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) eBay auction.

Heart of China (MS-DOS)

I always adored the adventures Dynamix published with the help of Sierra and the endearingly cliched Heart of China has always been a firm favourite of mine. I loved its atmosphere, graphics, rather silly plot and even the puzzles, but never played the 16-color EGA version.

Anyway, if you want to own a complete and lavishly boxed version of the game, there's a lovely copy of Heart of China (MS-DOS) for EGA, CGA and other less colourful graphics cards. It comes complete in its box with all the 3.5" disks and the ton of documentation that originally accompanied it.

Seller ships (almost) worldwide.

Boxed and working NEC PC-FX

Released in 1994 exclusively in Japan, the NEC PC-FX was a lovely CD-based console that looked like a computer and did many thing well, but failed to do 3D graphics properly. It is no surprise then that it never set the world on fire and got less than 100 games published for it. Then again if sleek 2D graphics, true colour, 2D effects and FMV video are your thing, you'll love it.

Handily, you can grab a sensibly priced NEC PC-FX console off of eBay. It's fully working and comes in its original box complete with poly inserts and two controllers. Seller ships worldwide with odd exception of Russia and Italy.

Flashback (Atari Jaguar)

Flashback: The Quest for Identity, Delphine's stunning action adventure that defined the early to mid '90s, received a rather excellent port for the Atari Jaguar that's smoother, more colourful, richer in content and better sounding than any of its 16-bit siblings. It also happen to be a port you can grab via this Flashback (Jaguar) eBay auction.

The game comes in its box complete with cartridge and manual and seems to be in a very good condition indeed. Seller ships worldwide.

IBM PC Junior & Color Monitor

Designed as the hobbyist, home personal computer that could do gaming and take on the 8-bit micros, the IBM PC Jr. was a lovable failure. Then again, it was a failure that gave birth to the very first King's Quest and came with the then impressive EGA graphics card, a decent sound chip, floppy drive, cartridge ports and enough RAM to run most MS-DOS applications.

Despite the first IBM PC Jr. retailing at around $1300 back in 1983, you can grab this particular, working IBM PC Jr. via eBay auction for much cheaper. The PC comes with keyboard, color monitor, its cables and all the storage gear you might ever need. Seller ships worldwide.

Metroid 2 (GameBoy)

Metroid 2, or to give it its full name Metroid II: Return of Samus, is a brilliant and unbelievably atmospheric game that could only have worked on the Nintendo Game Boy and, happily, that's the platform it was launched for. Exclusively so. Then again, chances are you know this already and are ready to hop over to eBay and bid on this Metroid 2 auction.

It's the complete boxed version of the game and it comes with cartridge and manual. Seller ships to Europe, Asia, United States, Canada and Australia.

The FM Towns II Personal Computer

Japanese PCs have a long history of sporting brilliant, quirky ideas and wild design decisions, and are almost always lovely to look at. This particular FM Towns II I run into while searching through eBay is a fine example of the above. It's a great looking, elegant, compact machine with a built-in CD-ROM drive and dual disk drives, that comes both with a mouse and keyboard.

Now, as this update on the original line of FM Towns computers is rather obscure a) I can't say much about the things technical capabilities and b) it's probably quite rare -- at least in the West. Apparently, the PC was released in 1989 and came with the added ability to read audio CDs and upgraded graphics.

Seller's shipping to Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia.

Scooby Doo's Maze Chase (Intellivision)

For the Intellivision starved Retro Treasures reader, here's a lovely auction for Scooby Doo's Maze Chase (Intellivision) on eBay. This most intriguing and not incredibly common Pac Man-like offering comes complete on a cartridge, in its box with manual and overlays.

Seller ships almost worldwide.

Fresh Homebrew: Larry LLFLL (NES)

With Nintendo's infamous censorship policy defining the better part of '80s console gaming, it's no wonder that Sierra's classic Leisure Suit Larry games never appeared on the NES. Until now that is, as indie/homebrew studio KHAN Games have finally finished their excellent looking port of the original Larry game: Larry LLFLL or Larry and the Long Look for a Luscious Lover.
The seemingly wonderful adaptation of the classic adventure has everything we all loved in the original, a refined interface and will run on your NES regardless of region. This means you'll actually be able to use the iconic joypad to buy a ribbed, oddly flavoured, yellow rubber, gamble and try to find love.

The Larry LLFLL cartridge will set you back an incredibly reasonable $50 and will come complete with dust sleeve, full colour manual, box and on board flash memory to save your games. Also, it looks fantastic.

Three Infocom boxes, filled with lovely Infocom interactive fiction goodies, in one big Infocom box is what the highest bidder on the Enchanter Trilogy eBay auction will be getting. StarCraft Collector's Special Edition Box (PC)

I still refuse to believe Blizzard's StarCraft could ever be considered a retro game, though I will gladly admit it's still one of my favourite RTS offerings ever. And I definitely prefer it over its sequel.

Also, this StarCraft Collector's Special Edition Box on eBay looks rather amazing. It's the Terran version of the box and it comes with the game disk in its jewel case and the manual. Everything seems to be in excellent condition.

Seller ships worldwide.

The Commodore 128 Personal Computer

The Commodore 128, the last 8-bit micro by Commodore, was an impressive machine that combined a C64, a CP/M computer and the new C128 with its powerful version of BASIC, 128kb of RAM and high-res graphics under one hood. But, why not can find out much more all by yourself by grabbing this fully tested and working Commodore 128 off of eBay?

Seller's shipping to the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Genesis CDX & Games

The Genesis CDX is small, handy and collectible, I'll give you that, but it never really was a brilliant idea; not when on launch it was more expensive than a Genesis with a CD add-on, but we can all assume than miniaturization did have to come at a cost. Anyway, the CDX didn't do particularly well and is nowadays quite the Genesis cartridge and Sega CD playing rarity. Just don't try hook it up to a 32X for it probably explode.

To grab one, you should probably bid on this Genesis CDX auction. The console is fully working and comes complete with power supply, TV cables, a controller and three games. Seller's shipping to most places worldwide.

Lucasfilm's Pipe Dream (Mac)

Essentially the US version of The Assembly Line's Pipe Mania, Pipe Dream is a lovely action puzzler that has you frantically connecting pipes and testing your mouse-hand dexterity. What's more, you can grab a complete, sealed and boxed copy of it for Mac via this Pipe Dream eBay auction.

Admittedly, this version looks way better than the 8-bit one I was playing and comes with an absolutely stunning cover by Steve Purcell of Sam & Max fame.

Seller ships to most places worldwide.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES)

Lucasarts' amazing, b-movie inspired, cartoony shooter has appeared on eBay and now you can bid on a truly rare Zombies Ate My Neighbors boxed copy for the SNES. It's one of the most sought after variants of the beautiful game and it's only available to US buyers.

NES Control Deck

The Nintendo Entertainment System Control Deck, the one people tend to call NES Toaster and/or Top Loader, is a wonderful iteration of Nintendo's massively successful 8-bit console. Also one that can play unlicensed games and both US and Euro cartridges. Oh, and you can buy a boxed, new, sealed and thus unopened one via this NES Control Deck eBay auction.
